- Open standards. Look for wide industry acceptance of the development tools, DBMS, and other components of the application. XML interfaces should be available for easy integration with other systems.
- Scalability. Only a multi-tiered design can support hundreds or thousands of concurrent users. Even if you don't need a scalable system today, you may tomorrow as your organization grows.
- Thin client/web based. Lightweight client software accessible via a web browser to eliminate workstation installation costs and provides a familiar user interface for your users.
- SQL Relational Database. Look for support of leading products like Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle.
